Happy New Year and Hello to all you Parchment fans out there! ...well, if you're still out there! I know it has been eons since we last posted. 2011 was one of those years that I was just really happy to be done with... not such a great one in my personal life. The things happening outside of the shop took a lot of time and energy away from one of my favorite things: being in the shop! But, in experiencing the sad and the bad, I realized that there is a whole lotta good to be thankful for. This quote, passed on to me by a dear friend, really helped me get through the year... along with the support of my customers, friends, family and most of all the group of Guardian Angels watching over me. (You know who you are!) As a thank you to those Angels, I had the talented and fabulous crew over at Dauphine Press set this wonderful quote in letterpress. The result: something so meaningful and special, I had to share it with everyone.

Speaking of gratitude, I would like to give a little shout-out to the incredible team at Wiley Valentine. They defied typical vendor expectations with a truly generous gesture for a customer of ours who had experienced a recent tragedy in her life. Their kindness left me speechless and I can't express how lucky I feel to work with a company like that who not only echos my own business philosophy, but also has the ability to look at "the big picture." Yes, we are all trying to make a living, but sometimes making money on a project is not the most important thing. It was an amazing gesture of "paying it forward" and so much appreciated.

Getting Crafty!

The weather has been beyond gorgeous, but that doesn't mean there are some of us that need a little downtime out of the sun. I'm including some very fun, very creative rubber stamps that have joined us at Parchment this year. Great for rainy days, or when you are beached out (is that possible?) rubber stamps make creating and crafting easy and enjoyable.

Ink + Wit is one of our favorite new additions to the store this year. Perfectly packaged, these little themed sets make it easy to be an artist. I love their recipe card stamp, which would be perfect for creating a handmade recipe set for a friend, bride-to-be or to pass down old family recipes.

As usual, we have a wonderful selection of nautical themed stamps for all of our seaside lovers. How fun is little Mr. Whale? The days are just flying by and it's nearly impossible for me to believe that August is here and September is on the horizon. Yikes! But fret not, we're prepared for Fall, and for the upcoming year. We just celebrated a big birthday in my family, and there's no better way to say "Celebrate" or "Happy Birthday" than with one of these fun and creative decorative flags from Tops Malibu. But the greetings aren't limited to special events, as there are some that simply just say "Thanks" or "Xoxo." I'd love to use the small size as a gift topper, tied right on top with the ribbon as an alternative to a gift tag. Father's Day is just a week away and now's the time to stop in for a great greeting card and perhaps a little gift. As usual, I've picked out some of my favorite cards...from "under the sea" themes to "beer and pretzels" we have cards for all the best fathers. Plus, check out some of the great gift items. Taking a break from Nantucket in the Winter is just lovely, and as much as I miss my Parchment family, coming home in the Spring is a true treat! I always look forward to seeing what new gifts, gadgets and papers Heidi has picked up while I've been off wandering. This year, one of the first UPS boxes I got to open was from Tinsel Trading Company. Heidi was delighted to hear it had arrived and I was beyond excited to see what it held. I'd proudly like to introduce all you creative crafters (and the not so crafty but oh so in love with pretty things) to the wonderful world of Tinsel Trading Company and Wendy Addison designs.

I will start by showcasing what I can only describe as gift canisters. We are constantly reprimanded for not carrying a wide enough array of gift boxes and so, here is our answer. Large and mini, these canisters are perfect for popping presents into. No wrapping needed! I just adore the mini size, as they would be the perfect place for a special pair of earrings or even as little dinner party treats filled with candies or a chocolate truffle. The large size makes an awesome gift card holder, or I even used it myself to contain a rolled up tee as a gift. Not to mention they look great on any desk, accumulating what odds and ends you happen to throw in there.

In keeping with the gift wrap theme, let me show you some very fun gift tags and bags. The party favor bags would be fun to fill for a kid's birthday...maybe with some japanese masking tape and rubber stamps for all those crafty kids. And let's not forget the hot air balloon tag. (It makes me want to float away this instant!)

For the grande finale, I present purely glass glitter and the bottled collection of beads, sequins and sparkles. The glass glitter is vibrant, fun, oh so colorful and yes, beautifully packaged! The bottled collections of beads and more are so perfect as is, I'd hate to take them out of their container. But what fun could be had with them...I see scrapbooking in their future. I remember Spring as being absolutely torturous while in school. The sun would be shining, the air would be warm, and I'd be stuck inside studying, eager for the last final to come to a close. Luckily Nantucket students haven't had to be tempted by good weather (what kind of Spring is this?). But just as well, I'm sure they are anxious to be done with books, papers, homework and all that jazz (at least for a summer.)

Not only do we at Parchment have a lovely assortment of cards for all those smarty-pant graduates out there, we also have some great gift items, especially for those headed off to college. (Think leather bound journals, desk accessories, personalized stationery....) Don't forget, it's not too late for graduation party invitations either!

It's warm! Hooray! After weeks of some nasty wind, rain and melancholy weather, we have blue skies surrounding the Gray Lady. The island is waking up for Wine Festival and over at 11 Washington Street we are pumped to begin the season after finding lots of new goodies at the National Stationery Show in New York this past weekend. I know some other blogs like to give sneak peeks of all the new finds at the show, but not us...we make you hold out! It's more fun that way, right?

I will give you a glimpse of a coloring books series that just can't seem to stay on our shelves. The Rosie Flo series is probably the only coloring book I myself and other adults crave to have for themselves. The fine lines, funky patterns, and perfect mix of guided coloring with creative design make for the BEST series of coloring books around. They're perfect for the future fashionista who loves patterns. Each book has a different theme (garden, animal, kitchen...) which makes it even more fun. And this isn't just for girls! Did I mention Johnny Joes, Rosie Flos male counterpart? Take a peek! (And if you don't have the Fineliner pens to go with them...you should!)

A Very Small Something

It's a bit of a gray Wednesday here on the island so I thought I'd introduce something a little playful to help cure the mid-week slump. Don't judge these guys by their size! Despite being teeny tiny they can help make any ordinary book, agenda, jotter, stack of paper (or whatever else) a touch more organized and fun. They are page markers no less! They come in these exciting different shapes to brighten up even the dullest page. Who can resist a smile looking at the rock paper scissors trio? Plus, I'm thinking these might be a fun add-on to recent grad's gift as they look forward to the land of mammoth sized textbooks. Happy Wednesday everyone!

While lamenting the fact that I am a terribly distracted driver and often find myself cruising the streets of Nantucket with no idea where I am trying to go or how to get there, Heidi pointed out something quite obvious: I am a complete and total townie. My commute to work consists of a two minute or less walk across the street and my idea of a long distance drive is to the Stop and Shop (which I dread). I have no idea of street names and am terrible at giving directions. It's just too easy to stay in town! That being said, I made the effort this morning to do a little cruise out to Cisco and was in awe of all the daffodils in bloom. I'm crossing my fingers for blue skies this weekend for all of our island visitors. It's a beautiful time to be here! In honor of Daffodil Weekend here on Nantucket I've picked a couple fun pieces to celebrate that special flower.

It's finally been looking a little more like Spring outside and we at Parchment couldn't be more excited for sunny days, blue skies and a little more action on those Nantucket streets ! (Yes, it's "we" now...the Henna and Heidi show has recommenced and I couldn't be happier to be on board for another season.) Well, it's that time of year again... time for a little pre-spring cleaning to get ready for all the freshies that Mr. UPS will be bringing in a few weeks. I've got to make room for all that is new, so right now it's out with the old. If you are on-island, come on down and check it out! There are $1. sheets of wrapping paper and $1. greeting cards. Pinch me, these valentines just keep getting better and better! I thought I would share the designs that are hot off the UPS truck this week... and for those of you counting, there are only 10 days left to choose your perfect valentine for your sweetie! This cute little crabby-patty is from our friends over at Flaunt, they never let us down, always creating new paper collage greetings in the shapes of fun friends.

In the last post, I mentioned how we get our groove on for any under-the-sea creatures. Well, check out these little numbers... Smudge Ink brought us these lovely little whales, sea horses and pelicans. (I can't look at a pelican without thinking of the movie "Finding Nemo"! Can you tell I live with a 5-year old?)

Last but not least in the ocean of valentines is this one from Night Owl. I whale always fall for a card with a whale on it!

So, it's out there.

Valentine's Day is on the horizon.

Now, in my vast experience with Valentine's Day, it tends to be a buy-your-card-at-the-last-minute sort of holiday, especially for guys. However, I'm hoping that maybe this first of the Valentine's postings will inspire you to act now! Get crafty! Be a "Prior, Proper Planner"! You've got 3 weeks to have some fun and surprise your sweetie with something a little more special than just your name signed on the card.

First up is this great set of color-your-own valentines from That Sky Blue. You know you are always going to find some kind of under-the-sea creature at Parchment, and how can you not love this whale and octopus. It makes me want to bust out my watercolors and play. Can you just imagine them finished off with a little sprinkle of Martha Stewart Crafts glitter? Divine!

Next are these sweet little gift tags from Joie, making their Valentine's debut. Sure, you can tie them to a lovely bunch of tulips, but what if you add them to a larger card and attach with a grommet or ribbon? Throw a little Happy Tape on there, and you've got yourself a little piece of collage art. (And if you have a little person in your midst, like I do, it is a great afternoon project!)

Finally, we have these packages of pre-cut heart-shaped cards. No cutting required to get the perfect heart shape. A simple love note or special Rumi quote on here is all it needs to send a special message to your Valentine.

Happy New Year! You have probably noticed our silence, through and past the holidays. Had I been writing, you would have noticed a change in voice, but, alas, there were no posts! Our dear Henna, the voice of the blog, is off for winter travels to far warmer and more exciting places than Nantucket in the off-season. I would be tempted to be green with envy, but truth be told, after 8 months of professional customer service, tech support, design & layout, creative writing, etc., she deserves a divine break! We miss you, Henna, but soak it up and enjoy it!

That leaves me behind, "the Big Boss" as I think she refers to me, manning the fort alone. I must confess, I quite enjoy this quiet season, and after a tumultuous autumn in my life outside the shop, I am ready for the healing powers of Nantucket in the winter months. I took a long walk yesterday, around and through town then down to Steps & Jetties beach. There are so many nooks & crannies and hidden paths to explore. (My old roommate used to refer to them as "secret townie routes".) The houses, quiet for the winter, have their shades drawn, like closed eyelids. There was no one on the beach, just me and a bunch of seagulls who were upset with me for disturbing their meeting. This is the time of year to reconnect with the place that I love, the Nantucket that I met in March, 24 years ago.

At Parchment, we have a beautiful reproduction of a poetry book originally published in the early 1900s, by Mary Starbuck. True confession, I am not a poetry girl! But these poems are ones that I can relate to, and are timeless to anyone who truly loves Nantucket. There is a copy of the original at the Atheneum... it is a gem and I encourage you to pause for a moment and take a look. Now that my feet are wet in the blogging world, I promise no more long silences from Parchment! Valentines are arriving daily, and we are working on some fabulous Save-the-dates for summer weddings. On Saturday, one of our loyal customers asked what I was wishing for from Santa. Without hesitation, I replied "Snow!" Our little island is 30 miles out to sea, and that water sometimes insulates us from the winter weather. But not this storm! Nantucket Public Schools even have a snow-day today. So, for those of you out there who only see us during the hot days of summer, here is a wintery photo for you. And Santa, thank you for granting my Christmas wish a little early!

EggPress stole my heart seven years ago (yes, it has been that long that I've been part of the Parchment family) and to this day I continue to drool over the positively spectacular products they produce. I may have mentioned, but this year I had the lucky chance to attend the New York stationery show with big boss Heidi and superstar Whit, and let me tell you it took me a good while to get over the EggPress booth. It's almost as though every single thing they create is filled with a touch of love and a sprinkle of happiness. Not to mention the whole EggPress crew couldn't be sweeter. I know...I've said it before but I'll say it again: "I LOVE NightOwl!" I just can't find anything more creative and exciting than sending an actual wooden card in the mail! The trees on Main Street were lit Friday evening and let me tell you it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas over on this little island. Shoppers are saving their red tickets, strollers are adorned with cozy hats and warm mittens and I imagine some of us have already picked out our own Christmas pines to decorate at home! The days are flying by, and we're working like little elves at Parchment to get ready for the busy holiday season. Want to know what I've been doing (since we all know I haven't been blogging!)? Here's a behind the scenes peek at how we create some festive holiday invites.

This is me: punch, punch, punch. (This is also why my hand hurts...)
Yes, don't they look so pretty!? All 80 of them...
After printing the invites and punching the snowflakes, I use our super cool glue stick to apply each snowflake on to the invitations.
And voila! This is the true beauty of the season--classy, sophisticated and streamlined with a touch of homemade love!

Well, well, well...Look who decided to show up and post this morning! Yes, me! I know, I know...it's been a long while and I'm sure all you loyal readers have been missing me. But fear not, after getting a little elbow nudge from the big Boss, I'm back in action.

Just a little update for all you curious folk out there: We at Parchment are staying busy. This weekend will pretty much wrap up the Fall weddings, but already in the works are the June brides' invitations and some much anticipated December weddings. Holiday cards are flying off the shelves. Bring your family photo in for custom holiday greeting cards. Many early bird specials end next week, so hurry on down!

The page flags are snazzy and fun, and make me wish I was back in college marking up big ol' text books with these playful page holders. My favorite designs are the "City Scenes." And the cloth covered thumbtacks are absolutely to die for. The floral patterns are funky and fresh, but to be honest anything polka-dotted usually wins my heart!

We have a soft spot in our hearts here at Parchment for all things beautiful, functional and creative. We absolutely love love love Susy Jack and her line of nifty organizational products. Topping off the list are obviously these stellar, day of the week clothes pins. Our very own Little Alana came up with the most ingenious idea of adhering magnets to the back of the the clips so they can be stuck of all those smooth, magnetic surfaces. Perfect for keeping track of busy back to school weeks. Not a big enough of a planner to actually prioritize by day? No fear, Susy Jack is here! The arrow clips are also big hits; great for clamping together miscellaneous stacks of paper while keeping them from getting lost in the shuffle. I have a couple things to say on this crisp Monday morning:

1. Isn't the Fall air fabulous? I'm the first to admit it's leaning toward the chilly side, but combined with the blue skies and the empty streets, it's positively gorgeous!

2. I told you about my collection of handbags, beach bags, clutches and even recyclable grocery totes, but did you know I am obsessed with journals? Yes, my collection of journals (half used, unused, chalk full...) rivals the inventory of Parchment. In fact, I own (or have owned) a fair share what we stock in the store.

3. I think squirrels are really cute. My mom likens them more to rodents, but I think they're playful and fun, as long as they aren't running up and down the roof all day and night.

Thus, let me sum up my three musings for this Monday morning: We have an awesome new line of vintage style paperback journals at Parchment! My favorite has a Fall feel to it (that hunter green spine is a great autumnal color), has beautiful fine-lined pages, and its cover is graced with an adorable little squirrel holding an acorn no less! (It may in fact be a chipmunk, but don't ruin my Monday by telling me that, because I prefer squirrels).

Nominated as a show favorite on various blogs after the big Stationery Show in May, Rifle Paper is definitely something to get excited about! After that tempting sneak peek in New York at the show, back home at Parchment we were so excited about adding Rifle to our ranks. It's been an excruciating three months of waiting for that big box of joy from them, but it has finally arrived and there isn't a single item that I don't want to hoard for myself! Their recipe cards are absolutely perfect (and coming in September are their luxurious, all wood, beautiful recipe boxes.) Their floral designs are delicate, colorful and one-of-a kind but it is definitely the animal prints and cards that are drool worthy. Take a quick peek for yourself!

Back to school bonanza!

When I was younger I was always the girl who loved going back to school, even though every other normal child was dreading it. Mostly I was looking forward to my annual back to school shopping extravaganza and the high light of that, of course, was getting school supplies. To this day, I still love the excitement of getting new school supplies for a fresh year of school, though my wish list has changed from Hello Kitty pencils to Russell and Hazel pocket folders.

So on that note, I’ve compiled a list of great back to school items that we have here at Parchment!

I’m a planner freak, so of course I need a different planner every year. This year Heidi got in this great academic planner that has plenty of room to write down assignments, extracurricular activities, and more.

Russell and Hazel has to be one of my favorite lines that we carry at Parchment. I love everything they do from their colorful mini binders to their to do sticky notes!

One of the best things about the red alphabet notebook is that one side of each sheet is lined and the other is squared. Plus a hard cover with spiral binding makes it super easy to write in.

Finally, you can't forget all the fun little office supplies!

As one might expect, as an island boutique we sure do carry a lot of nautical and sea themed products. Don't get me wrong, I love all of the fun sailboat designs, the cool seashells and of course our fabulous local artists who do creative Nantucket renderings. But sometimes it's nice to notice something with a little twist.

Wooster & Prince definitely has that extra flair. The designs are have an awesome graphic punch to them and the colors couldn't be brighter. Best of all? Their note cards come packaged in an adorable little wallet which makes it perfect for tying a bow on and giving as a gift! We're only five days into August, but let me tell you, Parchment is hoppin'! Have you noticed I've been slacking on my posting? Want to know why? Well...let me tell you: we are BUSY! Custom orders, September weddings, August events, heck we even have early Christmas shoppers (The rumors are true, we do carry the best stocking stuffers on the island...Christmas cards too!). Even today's downpours didn't stop the dedicated shoppers!

In light of all this craziness, I have a quick post for you this evening: a true Parchment family favorite. I'm pretty sure that way back when Parchment was in its first season seven years ago, EggPress was one of the first letterpress custom wedding albums Heidi carried. For me, it was love at first sight: the collection is beyond impressive. And while their custom album is definitely exceptional, their off the shelf greeting cards and packaged note sets are anything but ordinary. Every product of theirs I've encountered leaves me gushing about it for days. Those west coast guys & gals definitely have a special touch.

I really could write a book on how much I adore EggPress, but instead I'll limit myself to a couple shots of some of my favorite greeting cards they do. Come take a peek for yourself!

I humbly apologize for being so remiss about updating lately, but I've just been too busy enjoying myself on my own mini vacation! Yes, three days in a row of uninterrupted Nantucket time, complete with lobster dinners, sunset views, sails to Coatue and champagne toasts! It was everything summer in Nantucket should be. But don't get me wrong, I missed my little Parchment family, and am so happy to have a Henna and Heidi Tuesday (and maybe even a smokey yard bird sandwich from Fresh!).

While soaking up the sun, I was pondering what my next post would be when I realized my inspiration was by my side! On the same vein as my last lovely post...I'm now talking about bags (Not the kind you give with a gift, but perfect to give as a gift). I bought myself a trio of these super cool, recycled (and recyclable) totes made by SmudgeInk a couple years back and still find them to be a favorite go-to, always appropriate, arm accessory. They are durable, washable, bright and practicable. They're big: great for lugging groceries or packing in essentials for the beach, but they're adorable too. The fact that they are lightweight (plus easy to fold) and washable makes them a better option than your predictable canvas bag. Sold individually (love the deep blue!) or as a three pack, these guys are the perfect gift. But you might just find that you love them so much, you won't want to give them away!

Gift Bags Galore!

Here's a not-so-secret secret: I love bags! Purses, clutches, teeny, tiny little things that store pennies, gym bags, tote bags...yes, you name it I own it. I have a pretty rockin' collection of carry-able items in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors, materials and of course varying degrees of coolness. I will admit I just added two gorgeous Hobo leather clutches/wallets to my collection which I'm dying to start using but too scared to throw them in my current purse in fear that they will get stained with pen or food or whatever else is collecting down in the depths of that ancient bag. (Melted chapstick maybe? Does anyone else have that summertime problem?)

But just to set the record straight, my bag obsession carries over into the gift bag section, because I know a good gift bag can be hard to find, and a great one is nearly impossible to hunt down. Things are in full swing over here at 11 Washington Street! We've been busy bees printing invitations, gift wrapping, stocking the shelves and unpacking big boxes full of fun treats for the store. It's almost August and every day welcomes a new arrival to the store!

The latest item to drool over: Linda & Harriett's positively delicious letterpress calendars. I fell in love with Linda & Harriett last year when they introduced the most adorable letterpress note card crowded with tiny orange and pink piglets! (I have a soft spot in my heart for some of the most obscure animals. Pigs not so obscure...Llamas? I'm obsessed! Hippos? Ask to see my favorite rubber stamp.)

This year Linda & Harriett have decided to concentrate their efforts on some smaller projects and to offer their yearly and birthday calendars as their only wholesale item. The result? Wahoo! We survived Monday, and Tuesday is sure to start off with a bang! Our best friend/boss Ms. Heidi is probably mid-flight on her way to Ohio, and Little Alana, Whit and I are left to fend for ourselves. If you're out there...don't worry Heidi, we won't get too crazy!

Today I'm featuring the awesome collection of items found in our "Kiddy Corner." We know how hard it is to keep those little hands busy and out of trouble, which is why we have crafts, games and coloring supplies galore to happily entertain even the most energetic little friend on those grey Nantucket mornings. (Not that we have seen many lately...) Oh, and moms and dads, we also have what it takes to keep you on top in the crazy world of parenting. Check it out!

Our art set and coloring book selection is off the charts this year! New to our shop are the playfully packaged P'kolino marker, crayon, paint, and colored pencil sets that are perfect to keep on hand for all those budding artists out there. Our super fun "On the Go Art" sets make coloring more portable than ever. (Great for restaurants, boat rides, waiting for the planes...all that jazz!) It's early AM and I'm gearing up for a "H Squared" day...the Henna and Heidi show! It's Monday, which usually means a busy day in our little shop, especially since it's the last day before our lovely boss deserts us for an entire week while she makes a pilgrimage back to her motherland (none other than Ohio...wahoo!).

I thought I'd follow through with Heidi's words of wisdom on Friday, and the truth is she hit the nail on the head! Don't fret if you're running late and still want to host a July get together! Fill-in invitations are the perfect way to get a pretty little something in the mail quickly. The wonders of Japanese masking tape

During some last minute holiday shopping at the end of last year I stumbled across an intriguing item: Japanese masking tape. When all of this Parchment blog business got started Heidi nicely invited me to put in my two cents with my own corner on the blog and give the friends of Parchment a little taste of my thoughts and opinions. She and Henna literally told me that I could blog about whatever came to my mind, whether it had to do with my latest stationery obsession (which would have to be the Ilee mini gift enclosures that just arrived at the store yesterday) or with my eternal love for all things J. Crew (something that Heidi and Henna can attest to after witnessing my wardrobe over the past couple years). Needless to say, deciding on a topic for my very first post was somewhat daunting. So after some thought and a few encouraging nods from Henna, I decided to keep it simple and write about my current favorite color: bistro orange.

Let me preface this all by saying that I have a history of being incredibly loyal to my favorite color. As a toddler, I was purple’s number one fan. Everything I owned, from my dresses to my doll’s dresses, was some sort of shade of purple and, after a visit to a renaissance fair, I was thrilled to hear that I because of my purple outfit, I must be royalty. As I made my way through elementary school I said a tearful goodbye to purple and progressed to blue. I had a brief affair with green in high school but about two years ago bistro orange came around. Of course, it began with a pair of beautiful suede “pepper flats” that I purchased from the J. Crew on sale (I could spend hours preaching the virtues of J. Crew’s sale section). Against all of my previous aesthetics, I fell instantly in love with their “bistro orange” color. Ever since I’ve had a growing infatuation with oranges and, more specifically, bistro orange. It's that beautiful dark shade of orange that has just enough reddish coral in it to ensure that it could never be mistaken for the color of traffic cones. Since my first encounter with it, I can’t resist getting a new pair of earrings or a new set of letterpress cards if they're in my all time favorite shade of orange.

So there you have the story of bistro orange. I hope I didn't ramble on too much! Below I've put together a little sampling of the many different shapes, sizes, and shades of bistro orange. Enjoy!

It's official, there's nothing quite like a nice Italian leather! And this week at Parchment, fresh off the UPS truck (and all the way from across that big pond out there), we just received our yearly shipment of Pinetti leather goods. I've always loved Pinetti because everything they make is so elegant, and soft, and sophisticated, and Italian, but also because it was always kind of like Christmas when the box arrived. Since we only get one box a year, opening it was suspenseful--you'd never know what gorgeous goodies Heidi picked out that year at the show! This year when the box arrived, I still jumped for joy but there was less suspense involved--yes, it's true, I knew what to be expecting! How did I know? My lovely boss so kindly took me to the New York stationery show in May and I got to meet the Pinetti legends in person. It took my obsession with the product one step further--not only do I love what they create, but the company itself is a family run business and Mr. and Mrs. Pinetti couldn't be nicer! (Plus their English is great, but not perfect...so listening to them speak Italian is just heaven for me...it's nice to pretend my degree in Italian Studies is useful.) Every piece they produce is handmade and stitched and so clearly of a caliber that only those crafty Italians are capable of. So here, take this...three words for you...Pinetti Pinetti Pinetti! I love it all!

This year we got some exquisite journals, the always amazing leather clutches (actually pencil cases but are perfect to stash the going out essentials...$, keys, phone, lip gloss...), and the softest, most beautiful and just perfect photo albums ever. I think the metallic journals are some of my favorites because they're shiny and cool but I also love the new colors of the clutches. There is one I designated mauve, that to me seems to be the most perfect color to go with anything. That being said, topping off my list (yes, this one blew me over the edge) is the journal with built in USB thumb drive! Admit it, that's ingenious!!! A perfect example of how the Pinetti's are constantly combining traditional with modern. Now you can have your journal and write your stories, then type them up, and use your little USB to save everything and just keep on keepin' on with your life. AMAZING! Now to do justice to all these products, you have to come in and really hold them because my photography skills are limited to pointing and shooting. So hurry, Pinetti products have arrived at Parchment, and they are always quick to fly off those shelves!

It crossed my mind yesterday that this whole launch into the blogging world really should have happened ages ago for us. Sure, it's completely acceptable that Ms.Heidi (ancient as she is...) hasn't hopped on board earlier, but me? I'm allegedly of the age where I should be twittering (tweeting??), texting and updating every minute of my life. But the truth is...I'm not. I knew about the blog world, and occasionally checked up on some that I'd stumbled upon or were passed on to me, but until Parchment's quest to establish an online presence, I never actually realized the extent of what is available online, especially in the stationery sphere. And now that I have...I'm absolutely, positively, %100 addicted! Thanks to my life coach and blog mentor (preferring to remain anonymous, we'll call her C), I've been introduced to a number of amazing design, stationery, wedding and misc. blogs. It's a fantastic outlet for consumers, designers, store owners, brides-to-be, crafters and everyday yous and mes to involve themselves to a world of possibilities (in our case, paper possibilities). I can't express how excited I am to share with the world all the great things one little paper store, on one little island, can produce/create/offer/provide!

Of course having said all that, you'll notice how remiss I have been about posting! But hey, let's just blame that on the fact that here at Parchment, customer satisfaction is our priority!

Now, don't get me wrong...I love buying a set of notecards and keeping them on my desk until the occasion arises and I can sit down to write a note. However, that being said, I'm just a teeny, tiny bit obsessed with single cards. It gives you the versatility to tailor your card to the recipient, and plus it's just kinda fun picking them out in their shiny cello packages!

Here at Parchment we carry all sorts of greeting (and sans-greeting) cards. We have the traditional occasions--birthdays, babies, wedding, etc., but we also carry some more specific occasion cards like congratulations, good luck, new home, get well and happy shower cards. One thing that sets our selection apart are the unique lines that we carry. From across the US and even into Canada, Heidi searches near and far for the most colorful, playful, beautiful (and sometimes even a bit risqué) cards. And of course we even have that perfect card for when there is no big occasion at all! Right now I'm enjoying some of our sea-themed blank cards, perfect for when you just have one little letter to write. Come in and peruse our selection, and don't forget to ask if you nothing catches your eye at first (I say at first because I'm a firm believer that we have something for everyone!) We often have a larger selection available than we have room to display.

We heart stamping

By now you probably realize that here at Parchment, we aren't only about fine papers, we also provide all the accoutrements to accompany your paper needs. Falling into the fun accessories category, are rubber stamps. What I love about rubber stamps is that they are perfect for even the most inexperienced, unartistic among us (aka: me!). Plus it is fun for any age (think children's birthday gift...) They are great for sprucing up a photo album page, or adding decoration to an envelope and of course for creating your own stationery. Not to mention all the bright ink colors make your average stamp...well...not so average! We try to keep our collection pretty well stocked with Nantucket related images such as scallop shells, whales and lighthouses. One of my favorites (featured below) reads "I hope my ship comes in before my dock rots." (Don't we all!?) New to our shelves this year are Yellow Owl's adorable little stamp sets. They do city themed pairs in the cutest cloth bags (see the NYC taxi set below) as well as some larger wooden boxed sets that are just fantastic! Another awesome find from the big boss, Heidi G. Yippie!!

Yee-haw! Farmers' Market Notecards

Yesterday seemed to slip away quickly, but not so quietly. With Sundays being her day of rest, Monday means "re-entry" for owner/operator the lovely Ms. Heidi. As one may expect, she spends the day racing around trying attend to everything and everyone. While she goes about her day, my job is to be at her side, trying not to make any extra trouble. And so we spent our Monday playing catch-up...printing envelopes, conjuring up proofs, making messes, trying to find a good station on Sirius radio (any suggestions?) and of course, drinking Diet Coke (a Parchment staple). So forgive me please, I didn't get a post up yesterday!

But fret not, today's featured item makes up for yesterday's silence! Of the many charming new lines Heidi has picked up these year, Yee-haw Letterpress has got to be one of the most creative and delicious. Letterpressed on a thick, kraft-colored cardstock, the Farmers' Market line is as fresh as it looks. Inspired by a local farmers' market, Yee-haw features a variety of veggies and plants. Here at Parchment you can find the strawberry, corn, carrot, hydrangea and sweet pea designs. The oversized images on oversized notecards help these guys really stand out off the shelves. I have one word for you: Yummy!

Spotlight on: Peeps Tees!

Our Peeps Tees are subtle and extra comfy cotton shirts that come in women's sizes small through extra-large. Aqua, Brown, Black, Grey and White are all available. Designed and printed by our friends at Peeps Art in Maryland, we offer an alternative to the usual island tee. The hand drawn image captures the uniqueness of Nantucket island, and since it doesn't mention Nantucket on the tee, only another true island connoisseur will be able to recognize it. Because our women's tees have been so popular in the last couple of years, this year we are launching a men's option (sorry, not pictured) which is just as fabulous but a touch more masculine in its design. It's a Family Affair

So we've introduced you to our shop, and our lovely island, but you're probably wondering who is behind the posts! Let me take a moment to introduce you to the Parchment "Family." We're a small store with a small staff but we still manage to have lots of fun!

Our team is headed by owner/operator/creative genius Ms. Heidi. She's the real deal, the head huancho, the big guns! Heidi's responsible for buying and displaying all the goodies that we offer here at Parchment. Her eye for color and talent for finding only the best of the best is what makes Parchment's storefront so unique and pleasing to the eye. But it's not just the front of the house that Heidi handles. She takes her creativity to the back room, where she's an expert at guiding clients and brides-to-be through the custom stationery/invitation process. Working with Heidi means the perfect printed piece and a new best friend!

Next on the list, and pulling some rank, is Whitney. She's been at Heidi's side since the conception of Parchment and stayed by her side as the dream became a reality. A former year-rounder, Whit's now a summer star who keeps us upbeat and pumped through the craziness of the summer season. Her bubbly personality is contagious and working with her is a real treat!

Then we come to Little Alana, who really is little. She's the youngest, and the newest to the team, but still has three seasons under her belt here at Parchment. Even though she's the baby, without her Parchment would be a mess (literally). We're spoiled by her organization tactics and LOVE her fresh fashion sense. She's definitely the most pulled together and efficient staff member we have (and did I mention her handwriting is impeccable!)

So we round out the gang with me! I'm Henna. I started at Parchment when I was a baby, even smaller than Little Alana! As Parchment enters it's seventh season of satisfying all of your paper needs, I enter my seventh summer of being here to help. From custom invitations, to stickering bags and drawing lines, I pretty much have done it all here at Parchment. And yes, Heidi and I do sound the same on the phone, but don't be fooled she still knows more!

And that, my friends, is the Parchment Family! Each of us adds a necessary element and different personality to the store. We couldn't be happier to help you, so come on in and meet us all!
